Default Back from Normandy

I spent the weekend in Normandy, it was amazing !!!!!!!!!!

We saw some veterans, it was so impressive. And the thing is that they are nearly surprised when you ask for a photo, a lot of them said they are suprised people consider them like great heroes, they are surprised we love them so much, they said they didn't expect a welcome like that !!!!!!!
I was born in Bayeux so i always saw all this regularly since i was born, but this time it was really different ! and even for the 50th anniversary, it was not so emotionnal.
The celebrations were great. Lot of emotion too.

We went to visit some military camps, there was a sort a little landing in Arromanches, we saw all sorts of vehicules, we went to Sainte Mère Eglise (you know the story of the parachutist and the church - my granny met him years ago) on Sat morning, there was 700 parachutists !!! it was impressive and imagine the noise of the planes !!

Army jeeps everywhere, motorbikes too, old Norton and all, a dutch man (a passionate who made a military camp with friends near Omaha) took my son on his old motorbike and another one in an american camp took my granny for a drive in his american jeep with his hat ( what's the name ??) on her head, she was so happy ! she's 77 today, it's a great birthday for her !

There is so much things to tell you ! and i'm sorry i'd like to share all this better with you all, but in english it's difficult, as i don't know all the names of the vehicules and it's hard to describe

People were so friendly ! I never saw so much policemen !!!! the security was really impressive too. And the organisation was great. Even the fireworks on sat evening was amazing, and it was exactly at the same time at 25 different places along the coast, it was beautiful.

My granny lives near the english cimetery in Bayeux so yesterday morning with the Queen and a lot of persons there, imagine all the helicopters, we couldn't even crossed the street to the boulevard because of the security, it was a celebration only for veterans, even some of their friends stayed where the police closed the streets
and on our way home last night we were following Poutine during a bit of time on the motorway, same here, impressive security, cars, motorbikes and helicopter just for his car.

We haven't slept much, kids are exhausted ! (in part because they spent the weekend waving at jeeps ! ) but they can say they were there
We took some photos of course and i'll be happy to post them here as soon as i have them if some want to see them.

I am so happy i was there this weekend, in 10 years, the veterans won't be here anymore. My granny asked me, for the 100th anniversary, if i'm still alive she wants me to "tell" her what are the secret papers at the american Cimetery in Coleville. True, i'd like to know, i hope i will, anyway i'll ask my kids too.
I hope you can understand what i wrote. It's not easy to explain and i'm very very tired. But Happy !

I was delighted to read all about it since in another thread I was asking what the usual thing to do was (maybe this isnot usual, but you know what I mean). Only I didn't know what to write Glad you had a nice time and remembered all those brave soldiers!

It's all right Keeper, once again i think i didn't say exactly what i meant
If someone who speaks a good english explained what he saw in Normandy last weekend, it would have been an interesting topic. But i know it's not. I'm a bit disappointed, i thought people would enjoyed, but after all it's my fault ... and i realise the subject is maybe not so important for everyone. Well once again i'm too tired i think can't explain myself properly, but you get the idea but i'm glad if you understood and enjoyed !

I certainly enjoyed! I read most threads but don't reply to all. That doesn't mean I don't enjoy them if I don't reply! Yours was very interesting! Now I'm sorry I didn't comment anything the other day. And I don't think it has to do with wether your English is good or not! I was a great review!

Hey, cheer up, Jess!
