Considering I lived through NWOBHM, and saw all the best bands, I should point out to you that Manowar are American, Motorhead and Judas Priest were around circa 1974-76 and definiitely not NWOBHM, you are only left with Iron Maiden And Saxon.
why you bother to post these polls when all probably in EARLY 1980's you knew or know nothing about the subject matter surprises me.
The best bands apart from Def Leppard and Maiden, who were around in 1979, were Diamond Head (with the magical riff Am I Evil and Call me),
Tygers Of Pantang, Tank, Girlschool, Anvil, Angelhead, Budgie (who enjoyed a revival with this movement), Raven and Wytchfynder General.
There were others but the above were my faves.

What happened to Van Halen for band of the 70s?!??!!
Anyway, what shuggymac said is true.
If you're talking about the NWBHOM period, it's a very short period of time in early 80s and I'll put Def Leppard there too. Of course we know what happened and they got out from that genre after Pyromania.

Maiden for me too - they really rock (so do their tribute bands - one of the best vocalists i've ever seen)

Manowar I've only just started liking

i didn't think Saxon were that good when I saw them live

As far as I rememeber, my fave JUDAS albums are from DEFENDERS OF THE FAITH and BRITISH STEEL which are definetly NWBHM.
Weren't they realeased in the early 80s? how can you say they were arround 74-76?Are you sick?Their greatest hist are from the 80s. Breakin The Law for example was realeased 1980 and Judas are definetly one of the best NWBHM bands.
Come on, i don't think you consider DEF LEPPARD a NWBHM band.Yeah, they were first labeled like that just becasue HAIR METAL didn't exist. If DEF LEPPARD is NWBHM then BJ are it too...

MANOWAR- their style is NWBHM even they are AMericans. It's not that you had to be BRITISH to do that style!I know a lot of Romanian bands that played that too in the early 80s ...shall I call it NEW WAVE OF ROMANIAN HEAVY METAL?

Are you one of those guys that try to be knowitalls ?
