This is a Bon Jovi forum but only a small part of it now is about Bon Jovi, and it's doing pretty well.

The main focus at mine is movies, hence that section being at the top of the forum, the other areas are just so people can discuss other topics.

Just for the record. This is really not to piss you off. I run a board myself. No that my experiences are the sole truth but...

It is doing pretty well because it's been here for a long time and was something original or SPECIAL when it started out.

What's so original or SPECIAL about a movie forum? There are hundreds over thousands around the net. If you don't happen to know a rather huge group of movie fanatics or have something really original to offer your board will fall asleep in several months time.

However, all the best from me. I love those phpbb boards. It's some fun to experiment with the templates and styles.

Everyone has so start somewhere. I already have 9 members just from here, and I've been adding links on sites and others have been helping me too.

I don't think a forum has to have a specific theme to get going, and I know there are many movie forums around but I'd like mine to be more of a community of friends, like JT has become, of people with shared interests rather than just people talking about films.

You will certainly change your opinion over time Neil. If people want to come and talk random shit they seem do it here. There is no need to open yet another forum for it.

Keep a purpose to your forum. i.e, the film sections. Keep it up to date with person reviews and posted reviews. Keep a news section up to date.

When people realise it is an up-to-date forum there will be a need to join it and a need to use it. There is no 'need' for another community as its the same as taking this one [JT] and adding it to your server...pointless.

Keep yours based on one main feature, Films. Personally i would forget the BJ aspect of it completely, just link to here. If the 'other' sections of your site become more popular than the main section, as with here then mission complete. You have your friendly community, but it has to have one main focus to keep people intrested.

If people want to chat random bollocks they do a damn good job of it over here mate.

I will advertise it if and when i use it. Havn't decided if it's worth it yet.

I know what you mean, hence the top forums on my site are for movies, the first anyone will see. My site is also about films too, although that's still awaiting content (which is postponed as I have 4 lots of coursework to do now)
