Some posts are edited, but when things get too out of hand or completely out of topic the best solution s just deleting and/or locking.

Some decisions you will agree with, others you won't.

Exactly - so you can expect mistakes and confusions to happen.

I don't have a problem with explaining things when explanations are indeed needed. It's pretty obvious why the thread was locked. (Locking threads is not something new in JT anyway.) I don't think any explanation is needed for that.

The board is still favouring freedom of speech - only namecalling has always been kept at bay for obvious reasons. Name calling is NOT freedom of speech

Firstly, it was not myself who locked/trashed the 'Alien Invasion' thread. It was a moderating team decision that something was done about the 'Alien Invasion' thread. We had left it as long as possible, before namecalling completely took over. Sometimes we edit users posts, sometimes we simply lock it, other times we trash it.

The entire thread had just tourned into a war against JRNY02 from Backstagejbj board. It would have been silly to split this topic as once the 'unappropriate posts had been removed, it would have only carried on regardless. It was one of those threads which never seems to end. If we had chosen to edit it, we would have had to edit over a dozen posts, so it wasnt worth it. We fealt it was in the boards best interests to remove it from the public forum, hoping the Shenanigans would stop (How wrong we where :P).

As I said about a number of moderators decided that this was the best option to take and the action was caried out. We fealt that it wasnt completely necessary for an explanation to be posted.

When stonedeaf posted a new topic in General Discussion Forum, again, we fealt that should be trashed as well as his thread was not going to bring the older thread back.

Name-calling is not appropraite for jovitalk and was the prime reason for the topics being trashed. This is a very open board and we advise freedom of speach where possible. You must understand why we fealt the need of trashing the 'Alien Invasion' thread.

However, Occurances like this do pop up every now and again, and yes we can appologise to those users who fealt like we were out of order here by not posting an explanation for locking a particular topic. We dont always have to post this, but seens how this has opened up a whole can of worms, then it is my pleasure to give you the reasons and hope it can compensate for any crossed wires today.

Anyway (I think ) thats all from me for now. I am away for a few days now, so have a nice weekend!

You haven't seen this yet ?

I see it everywhere, it means don't talk about sensible things, don't spam, don't do this don't do that ...... well don't discuss about something if it turns into a debate

So what? If it would've been split into a separate post and marked with a warning, everyon would be happy. That 02 guy got what he deserved. What you're doing is driving this board closer and closer to Backstage every day. If a person can't discuss without referring to name calling, it's their problem. It hasn't caused any threads to be locked previously, why now?

Jess - don't feed the troll means not to play with people who only come to waste their time and want to make you waste yours. Certainly not what you said. So called trolls come for a few days, spam with silly posts and then they're gone. If you don't "feed" them they don't have playmates and just leave

No, it doesn't. It means "do not feed the troll". If someone's trolling (acting stupid only to cause a stir), don't give him/her anything to play with. Ignore it. It has nothing to do with debating.

So, where's your apology concerning your wise words?

And I knew it wasn't you who closed the Alien invasion topic, but who closed all the topics concerning the board policy?

Also, closing the topic because it has become a war against JRNY02 isn't exactly the smartest thing as well. It's obvious he's the one who started it, and now the people who are his victims are the one who have to suffer from his shitty posts. The people that are actually in that war don't give a damn about the name calling, so why close it? Closing a topic for name calling is a rule because it might hurt someone. I don't see anyone getting hurt. And if JRNY02 would attack someone that's got nothing to do with it I'm sure the dude would be bashed into the ground by the whole board.

Salaam Aleikum,
Sebastiaan

Maybe he did get what he deserved. maybe he didnt. That isnt the issue here. The issue is why the thread got locked in the first place, and like we have said it was for namecalling and namecalling only. Whether the recipient of the namecalling was offended or not, that does not give the right to any user to start namecalling in the first place. It isnt appropriate for the board, therefore it was locked.

As i mentioned above, whether the person was offended or not, its still not language that should be used on Jovitalk, therefore we are asked to take action to threads which are uncalled for like the one in question.

Do you need to have that thread split but left right in that forum for everyone to see? You discussed with the guy, you say he got what he deserved so the purpose (if any) of it all was done with. There was no point in keeping the thread - split - there as a model of JT namecalling and pointless arguments.
