It was just the outlinme that hurt, the actual colour was fine and I couldn't feel a thing when it was on the bone bu as soon as he hit my bicep it got pretty painful.

I have had pierced ears since I was eighteen. I quit losing earrings that way. No other body piercings though. My son got his tongue pierced a few years ago but said it was incredibly painful and he let it close up after a week or so.
