there's nicer prostitutes in berlin than amsterdam.

it's the same as beer, the further west you go, the worse it gets.

i don't even know why amsterdam has a thriving red light district i mean go to any coffee shop, pub or any sort of digs and you'll find a shitload of people all high and horny as **** (as a result of being high) so why waste money paying?

i did consider going to amsterdam but dam square would probably be horrible and my sister's coming with me, she doesn't even drink that much never mind have the odd dabble with illegal substances.

You bastard, Jim!! For over 5 bloody months I lived in Germany and will be returning there for another 4 from mid-January to mid-May next year. I didn't get to Berlin then and I'll be lucky if I get up there next year too, as I will be working almost immediately upon my return....bastard!

Have a beer or ten for me, ok?

i'm sure i'll manage. i got around so much of berlin when i was there in september that i feel totally clued up on what to see and where to eat.

in fact one thing and im not sure if ive asked you this before but do you know a pub called silberfische (or something that sounds like silver fish) on or near orienanberger strasse?

i was in this pub one night that was playing all sorts of cool indie music, i asked a girl what it was called and she said silberfische (i know this cos i took a note of it in my phone) but the next night ic ouldnt find it and no one i asked had ever heard of it :'-(

i'm positive i didnt imagine this

i really dont think my sister will hack the pace.

Yeah, like when you were lost and realized that your guidebook was still in Deutsche Marks and the street names were pre-fall of the wall...

Let me tell you one thing my friend: Anybody who visists another country or city or continent should be so lucky to have a resource to be clued into the finite details of the city/country etc.

Tourbooks are great. But once you have travelled a bit, you'll realize that the tourist spots might not be the best spots after all. Or that there might be that hole in the wall dive restaurant/bar that blows your mind, yet a tourbook would never know about it and thus be able to tip you off on it.

Get your ducks in a row and read up on it to make the most out of your vacation, then listen to what locals have to share....

once i'd got my bearings i never looked at the guidebook time forgot

since my sis is coming we're just6 going to hit all the tourist trap bits so she can see everything and hopefully i'll get to see some of the other stuff i missed out on this time. hopefully it won't be too miserable so we can hire bikes.

+1 for the locals thing. i wound up in lots of very cool pubs and clubs simply by asking german folk if i could tag along with them wherever the feck they might be going

but alas my sis is much less inclined to enjoy underground raves or 90s techno clubs so any old pub will make do. if i can drink decent beer in it i'm content

thought i'd hunt this one down to say they've just announced the programme for the party at the brandenberg gate and the scissor sisters are going to be bringing in the new year and the sugababes and a couple of big european DJ's too.

can't believe it's free. i think tickets for edinburgh are about £40 and they've got the pet shop boys and paulo nutini *shudders*
