Default Britain best for havin' a laugh!

Britain best for having a laugh

Britain is the best in Europe at having a good laugh, according to a survey.

In a Reader's Digest poll of other European nations, Britain - home of TV comedy classics from Monty Python and Mr Bean to The Office - was overwhelmingly voted to have the best sense of humour.

It was ranked top with 30% of the votes from 4,000 people from 19 EU nations, ahead of Italy with 15% and France and Spain, both on 7%. The Swiss were the least funny.

One Dutchman said he liked British comedians for "appearing deadly serious and being hilarious at the same time".

Achievements in football, medicine and industry helped Britain to be considered as the nation which has contributed most to the world. It received 28% of the vote, ahead of Germany with 21% and France at 13%.

But that is where the compliments stopped because, according to the survey, the British are rude, not sexy, inefficient and the food is bad.

At 12% of the vote the British were the third rudest, behind the Germans (27%) and French (14%).

"They do not seem to know how to behave on holiday," one Dutchwoman said. "All they do is drink and yell."

The Norwegians and the Swiss were the least rude on 1%.

The Italians were the sexiest with a 34% rating, followed by Spain with 15% and France with 14%, while Britons came joint seventh with four other countries after scoring a paltry 2%. The only comfort was that the Belgians were last after scoring 0%.

Do you agree? or not?

strictly disagree with te humour thing- i HATE mr. bean, dinner for 2 aso... (never seen a monty python though)- i agree with the bad food- for the rudeness... don't know- watched a tv documentation bout the drinking behaviour up there and though it was not really what i'd call "unbiased" i'd say that there are not many places where i wish to linger at night in a city in the uk
the study also says the austria and germany are among the least popular countries

could you have picked two worse examples of british comedy?! remember that comedy also includes stand up. i don't know of one 'foreign' stand-up who could be up there with the brits.

I think some American stand up comedy is brilliant, I always loved Eddie Murphy and Denis Leary, but I think that British humour is extremely diverse and very funny. I mean you just need to watch Only Fools and Horses or Fawlty Towers to see that!
I guess I kind of agree with the article, especially with the English always drinking and yelling!! That is so true I'm afraid!!!

union jack shorts are a disgrace!!! they should be outlawed. and nah, lanzarote isn't like that; more likely to be faliraki, kavos or san antonio for that kind of thing.

but yes, i'll be drinking copious amounts of alcohol and probably make an arse of myself over in gran can

Yeah brits abroad give us all a bad name

British Comedy is by far the best, for sitcoms, films and stand up.
