You know perfectly well what I meant. My generation (or their kids generation) of Americans, and a rebirth of the Third Reich (you're right on when you say it'll be the Fourth Reich though).

I say fine, get your ID cards. But please, don't come looking to my generation or the next for help when the Third Reich starts rising, ok?
In this day and age, do you even need to ask America for help before they go sticking their nose in where it isn't wanted?

I thought you'd only be happy to have something to shoot at, Adrian?
I'd rather be in a society where I was chipped or carried a card than be in one where Joe public was able to buy a magnum in two weeks (No, not the ice-cream)

If you've read any of the gun posts I've made, you'd realize, I would be blissfully content to live out the rest of my life without ever pointing a gun at anything other than a paper target. I'll point a gun at something other than paper if/when my life/rights are ever threatened, but I do NOT hope or wish for that day.

As for your preference about societies, that is precisely why me or any of my future kids will NOT be shipping over to Britain in the eventuality that we ever need to save anyone from you self imposed fascism.

That's what I call taking so-called justice in your own hands. I don't think you have any right at all to point a gun at any other person. Maybe in extreme cases of self-defence, but I'm not even sure about that.

Also, you may be very well capable of having a gun and not go crazy on it and attack half your neighbourhood, but some other people aren't. To defend yourself from those people is why you'd be having a gun, according to you. So it doesn't make sense - a silly vicious circle, in fact. I'd rather live in a gun-free society.

So I'll stick to the 'fascism' of not being able to buy a gun for a few dollars and having an ID card instead.

If you want to talk about how horribly irresponsible all of us 80 million law-abiding gun owners are, PM me about it. I was just clarifying something for Rashbaum, I do not intend to hijack Jim's topic.

If everyone was chipped though whenevr a crime was committed police would be able to find out who did it by tracking the area that the crime occurred when it occurred and then finding the signal from the chip and thus who did it.

Eventually people would realize the futility of crime as they'd always be caught, but people would disocver how to remove the chips so perhaps until nano-technology is perfected it isn't really a good idea.

Like I said only those with something to hide would complain

I'm not even a UK girl :P I've had my ID card for years and years now No trauma so far No big brother in sight either :P

Adrian - no I really don't want to discuss that privately since I don't have much more to say about the matter. Don't get me wrong, I respect your opinion and think it may spring from some experience I lack in the matter. People with different backgrounds see things differently. My constitution wasn't written at a time when the dangers of guns weren't widely known, etc, etc and doesn't enable me to carry one. And because of that - I'm grateful. But that's it, just my opinion

Okay, Jim, I'll shut up now :P
