Man, that's the weakest pick-up line I've seen yet! are you old enough to be hitting on UK girls? can I see your ID card?

I'm not even a UK girl :P I've had my ID card for years and years now No trauma so far No big brother in sight either :P
here's someone (albeit a Spaniard) who has to carry around an ID card and has done for years. As much as I dislike the nation, I don't exactly regard Spain as a hotbed of fascism or a big brother state.

Wow, Jim, I'm impressed! That must be as close as it gets for you to compliment a country that is not your own! :P

Fully aware that you were only taunting I gotta tell you that you're wrong indeed. As he clearly referred to the Nazi regime he was absolutely right using this term, since it doesn't refer to the number of fascist regimes on this planet but German wholeness.
Although unusual but if you are desperate to do a count, it would actually be the Sixth Reich. However, I don't see what an imagined British fascism would have to do with German history.
We've come full circle. Third Reich is the appropriate term when talking about a fascist regime. How he jumps from an ID card to a Third Reich though stays beyond me.
I might be completely ignorant on this but the British had no ID card until now?

Gun = large thing that fires shells
Rifle = smallish thing that fires bullets / rounds
pistol = small weapon that also fires bullets / rounds

Get the terms right please kids.

My apologies.. In true In true insular fashion I forgot a fair number of European countries already had cards in place... which is truly stupid as I actually have seen a couple of them in my time!

Well, you guys have had it in place for a while and no Nazi’s as of yet… well apart from nearly in France (due to a dodgy electoral process and the split left vote) and Holland (but I think someone shot them) … so rejoice … I’ll carry my card with pride and quite frankly wouldn’t be complaining if the police did start being a bit more hard-line on lawbreakers… those of us with nothing to fear may be a bit safer after clubs out on a Saturday night.

Crash! I’m glad to see we’ve got someone on this board who can think straight… I think we should make you an official referee on all arguments built on faulty logic.
I would argue from a linguist perspective that Adrian saying “when the Third Reich starts rising” that he was implying in error a new fascist movement brought about by the repressive regime instigated by the introduction of ID cards as opposed to a resurgence of Nazism conceptualised in 1930’s Germany… and since he completely missed the Germany connection that would lend further weight to that… but then again I’d probably be being a bit churlish to try and get away with that defence if this were a proper debate.

Just out of interest Crash, could you educate me on how we’ve got to the sixth reich? Can’t seem to turn up much about it… does the Reunification of Germany after the Berlin Wall fell count as another one?

yeah, to answer your question we have managing by without any ID cards up until now, whether we are better or worse off for that I guess we’ll start finding out next year.

Based on your fine sarcasm I would like to ask whether you really consider to set a German in any official billet? Even moreso with a Jewish name.

He would have been perfectly right stating "another Third Reich", not "the Third Reich".

Well, you brought in the Germany connection trying to do a count. It's very common to use "another Third Reich" when being afraid of a new fascist regime, not necessarily in Germany.

Actually, no one says we are living in the Fifth Reich now. The Third Reich is in fact the only term where it is used. Also, knowing what it stands for would make it odd to continue the count.
But it was originally called the Third Reich because it was the third kind of unity Germany went through (1871, 1919, 1933).
Now, if you wish to continue the count (although it is not done officially), 1949 would mark the Fourth and yes, I would consider the Reunification in 1990 as the Fifth. Actually, only one of the two states changed politically, but as the Fall of the Berlin Wall is quite an outstanding event not only in Germany's history, yeah, I would say it does count as another one.
Finally, if a new fascist regime would grow it would be the Sixth Reich.

That is completely new to me. But I guess as long as it doesn't look like a Blauschein there's no need to be afraid.

For once I was serious! Crash for referee! and considering the scariest thing your country have managed to come up with in the last few years is rammstein I think we would all be pretty safe

Lol, take me away… I hate my work anyway… and stick a pink hankie in Adrian’s top pocket while you are at it.

I can see a great new war story developing… set in a fascist UK after the introduction of ID cards… The Evil Crash as overlord… The only ones saved are on “Rashbaum’s List”

Bloody hell, this is poor taste… even by my standards.

So true.

Yeah, and we call it "*ºÇåptäîn¤Çrä§hº* And The Faults Of Tomorrow". Oh, wait, the title could bring up a litigation. But well, as long as my opponent will be Miss Jolie, I'm in for it...
