Springsteen gets go-ahead

ROCKER Bruce Springsteen will perform in Manchester later this month after a court overturned a controversial council ruling.

Trafford councillors had last month decided that the American star known as "The Boss" would not be allowed to perform at Lancashire County Cricket Club's Old Trafford ground after neighbours expressed concerns about noise, nuisance, litter.

The club and promoters SJM, who have already sold 50,000 tickets for the gig, appealed against the licensing committee decision. Today magistrates resumed the hearing from last Wednesday and heard evidence from residents who told of problems they faced from fans of Oasis when they played there last year.

Members Great Stones Road Residents' Action were in court to hear the evidence.

The bench, who sat in court from 10am to 8pm, agreed to let the May 29 concert go-ahead because they said the club had been able answer many of the residents' concerns.
