I see exactly what you mean, Ponrauil, and believe me, it also worries A LOT of people in the US! As for the ratio of pro/anti Bush, I don't really know. I don't believe polls as I have already expressed. That only leaves my personal experience and that is mostly anti-Bush. However, my experience is greatly biased as my friends are likely to think like I do and I would have a hard time being close friends with a Bush-fan. (though one of my very good friends likes Bush - she ain't a fan, though).

How/Why do people get so resigned and/or versatile?
|
I think it is a combination of things, but mostly it is due to the following: People make up their minds and once they have, it is hard to change it. I think people feel very vulnerable admitting that they might have been wrong. So, when they buy into the white house lies (in an extreme emotional vulnurable state as after 9/11), they have an extremely hard time to admit that their ideas were wrong. It is a well-known fact, that one of the first things Bush and consorts were discussing on 9/11/01!!!! was whether or not they could use that disaster to go to war in Iraq. Imagine that. On a day where you have 100% of the people on the edge, emotional vulnerable as never before, to think of abusing the situation to start a war for personal reasons (oil is personal to the leadership - nothing else - it is their personal well-being).
I am embarrassed and offended every time a foreigner makes a statement as you did. Embarrassed, because people might think I buy into the crap. Offended for the same reason. It happens that most of my friends think like me and, probably, you about this whole mess. Though, I also know people - I might consider friends - that support Bush whole-heartedly. These are educated adults. I do not understand them in that respect. Knowing them, I realize they are people like me for all other aspects, they just "don't get it" - if you know what I mean.
Example: I don't know if you have heard about Rush Limbaugh. He is an extreme right wing a/hole that has his own radioshow. While I was in College, I had a neighbor that listend to his radioshow every day and had the radio cranked up so that I HAD to hear every word. You would not believe what garbage came out of his mouth. He is an extremist. Well, it so happened, that he recently has been accused and investigated about illegal narcotic use (this is a guy who is Bushes boy 100% and most Republicans would make him a saint). Well, his fanclub did not believe the allegations (though they actually found the stuff in his house)!! He now is under investigation about money laundering.

I do find that hilarious. His apostels are still with him, though. I think it is very much like religion or Bushism. How could someone, after all this, still support that nut? Though, I have to admit, the illegal use of narcotics doesn't nearly put me off as much as the garbage coming out of his mouth. Maybe that is the difference.
Please don't think the majority buys into the crap and please don't think people resigned about it either. Though many do and are. However, there are many people who are fed up and ready for a change. What's the ratio? I don't know, but want to believe it is below 50%!
