No offense to you Choc, but I am just sick and tired of hearing how brainwashed and ignorant we are. Especially when it is the exact same thing on the other side of the world.

Now I know you are not like that Choc, along with a great deal of other people that I talk to. But Germans have their faults, English, French, etc. It just seems everyone loves to point out the American peoples faults first, whereas I wouldn't think of doing the same.

I'd say on the whole we are quite spineless - we put up with things we shouldn't have to (historically as well as now)...

we are too eager to please everyone

many protesters don't know what they are protesting about - i'm against war - but once it has started i'm for it... because i think if you are going to start someting you have to finish it...

one of my FEW criticisms of the war is that i don't see where it will ever stop - because after Iraq there is Israel, Zimbabwe let alone other countries perceived as being evil

i found in US that the people I met were amongst the nicest I have ever met - there were many who did live up to the US stereotype yes - and surprisingly many...

but i was in some of the more remote regions - one thing i picked up from New York is that there was a genuinely communal and friendly atmosphere - and you can tell many do have a great pride for their city...

i don't say all americans are ignorant - i say george bush is... i dislike the way his speeches sound very patronising and deliberately patriotic so as to ignore the real issues... i'm not anti american at all (i actually love the country from my only 2 visits there) but i'm certainly anti-george bush

back to criticising english:

many of the protests happen outside my college and i get quite angry because of WHY they are protesting - because of humanitarian issues etc...

the way i see it: even if the US is hypthetically for oil there will still be the humanitarian element and the people of Iraq will benefit...

I agree with that aspect of the war - i don't agree with the expansion of US industry over yet more of the world - monopolising markets etc though...

i'm not anti-Tony Blair and i think it is silly to regard him as GB's "poodle" - Blair is a very clever man - i just think that for him perhaps the motive is more humanitarian than it is economic

and i admire him in some ways for continuing despite public opinion - the great difference is that proportionally more US are for coalition politics than in the UK

hope my post doesn't flare up the argument again - i've been quite diplomatic methinks
