She wasn't putting anyone down. This is just what she noticed. The press is not supposed take sides, but too often they do here in America as well unfortunately.
Generally, 1 or 2 pages a paper has articles about America. The Daily Mail, one of the UK's less information packed newspapers contained 96 pages today. So not sure what papers your sister is reading.

Concerning Israel - it might interest you to know that Palestine occupied the land Israel now holds before Israel kicked them out earlier last century - claiming it was their land about 2000 years ago when Jesus was around. Armed with US weapons they then repelled an attempted invasion by palestine & other Middle Eastern states. The mess you see now is a result of that. The extremists Palestinians goal is nothing less than seeing Israel destroyed & the same with Israel. Israel is using its strength to oppress the Palestinian people & claim more & more land. A palestinian extremist blows himself up, killing Israelis - Israel then retaliate, blowing up Palestinians with US weapons.

This 'little' conflict is infact the biggest threat to peace within the Middle East.

So hopefully you can see that it is not just 'terrorists' hating Israel for the sake of it.

As far as Iraq goes, the U.S. has taken a policy of not waiting to be attacked. That was a big reason for going to war. Iraq has been a pain in the world's as@ for too long. When your country looses 3,000 people in a terrorist attack and you lived what we did-you may change your mind.We are not going to "wait for it to happen anymore.
But hang on.... Iraq had no WMD & no credible terrorist ties. Libya had however supported state sponsored terrorism in the past, inlcuding the IRA that the US were actually sympathetic too & are alleged to have supplied them with money and weapons.

And it will interest you to know that the UK government produced a report saying that this invasion had made the terrorist threat to the world more dangerous. You are doing exactly what they want. Bin Laden could not have dreamed his planned attacks of the WTC would have been so 'successful' (from his point of view).

Quote:
I did not say 20 years goose,I couldn't go that far. What EXACTLY i mean is well lets see. First they try to take over Kuwait(sp?),commit horrible crimes on there people.
That came after we'd supported them in their war over Iran - where the majority of the mass graves that are being uncovered resulted from.

Quote:
Then they don't let inspectors in for 10 years.
Actually it was four years. They left because Iraq weren't cooperating. They weren't cooperating because of the sanctions. Vicious circle.

Quote:
And I do believe they supported terrorists-depends on who you watch if that gets covered.
You believe?? You speculate?? Based on what?? Bin Laden hated Saddam & everything he stood for. There are no credible links.

Quote:
That my friend,affected America big!
What? That they were speculating a threat?

Quote:
To say that Saddam had nothing up his sleeve is foolish i my opinion.
But he didn't - Kay has shown that.

Quote:
Sorry you support them/ silly Brits I wasn't speaking of their people ,just of their dictator rule. That's why he was a pain in the a$$!! I also believe there were weapons-there are people over there that say they were there, but probably moved-also a pain in the a$$.
You may speculate there were, but the guy who actually went there & looked said they weren't.

Quote:
I don't know if u get the whole story anyway(BBC)-Their reporting is very biased.
Based on what?? Have you watched it?? It is independent & is not controlled by large republican corporations.

Quote:
And no-I didn't frommy opinion from the guy in Fox(although Ido love Fox as much as you love your BBC) yo mamma. Ya know-my sister-in-0laws sister live in London and says that a very good part of your news is about America-more than your own country. Nothin else totalk about this? Oh,and she told me this before the war was even thought about-so don't blame it on that.
America appears in our news more than other countries because of its influence. However to say it appears more than domestic news is either arrogant, stupid, or dillusional.

If you want me to provide links to any of the above I will. You will find that is not the informed speculation that you are spurting out.

& no - it's not because you are American. I have had arguments with republicans FAR more informed than yourself.

The information about your press reporting so much about the U.S. was nohting more than what someone who lives there told me. I believe it to be true. It was not my sister, but my sister in laws sister who lives there. My sister in law did say the same though and they are in no way being"arrogant". I am not going to have a conversation with someone consistently insinuating that I am ill-informed. When you grow up,have a family, and experience real life, then maybe we can talk. There is no need to put down someone for their own opinions. You Boys can be quite rude at times ,therefore it is hard to want to discuss anything with you. I in no way mind you disagreeing with me,but don't put me down. Any single post that says something about the U.S. you jump on and act like we are the root of all evil literally. It gets old and I think you nedd to open up a little,be a little more mature and see someone elses point of view. Most of what is posted here is opinion-period. You say you are not anti-U.S.,but you are . I have never seen you say a nice thing about us. Maybe you have, but I haven't seen it. You may know more than me on some of these subjects Mike, and that's great. You need to lighten up a little. I know it's rough around here at times and that is fine,I'm glad we have some free speech on this board-there isn't so much on others. Please don't insinuate that I am stupid. I don't have the time with 2 kids to research everything. I merely say what I see on the news,or occasionally read in the paper.

Quite simply then, she is wrong. I have lived here all my life.

Experience real life?? Thats a good one.

This coming form someone that dismisses anything I say that disagrees with her as Anti American.

Again - it is hard when anything I say is dismissed as anti-americanism. Try addressing the points I raise.

I haven't said anything bad about you either. I attack your government.

& hence I am trying to inform you. I don't mind your opinions, I object to your responses to my arguments being labelled as merely anti-Americanism when you rarely address the points I raise.

goose-My country will be as important to me as I want it to be. Also, this is exactly what I am talking about with you and Mike. I just repeated what someone told me-I guess you have a different opinion than her-simple as that. No way for me to know for sure,I don't live there. It was a harmless statement. You are taking it way to serious.
Mike-I don't think there is any hope for us because no matter what I say ,you will argue. If I said grass was green, you would come back with an arguement. I'll leave it at that. My point is to maybe not be quite so sarcastic . If at all possible. we will never agree on politics my dear. I simply posted things in general. I like your wit,and gooses, just don't be so rude.

Um, dear...you're wasting your time. Nothing you say will matter anyway...just forget it and move on. They love to carry on and on about America. Just drop it or this will go on for another 10 pages.

Amy, you should know that's not true. ´Goose and especially Mike are very informed about politics (not just about america, but also about germany, france etc... - they have shown it in the past). Also, I have never seen Mike saying anything without constructive Arguments. It doesn't matter whether or not his opinion equals ours, but from my point of view its quite interesting to see different opinions. Let Krisy defend herself - if she doesnt want to, fair enough. but dont put Mike & Goose down
