Ha! not letting this project slip! Jim's had a lot on his plate as of late so don't know how up he'll be to recording the drum track - any other drummers out there or know of any I can harass? If worst comes to worst I'll try and get the drummer from the band I am in to lay it down - he's just getting a home studio installed ... lucky sod- but that does kinda take it away from the board which I was hoping to avoid!

alright mate hopefully the past few weeks of general shitiness and having too much to do are over with so i can get this done.

quick question RE: the click.

i've tried laying down the track and my drumming is slightly slipping off the click by the end of the solo which is making me stop.

it's literally a fraction off but if you're trying to record along with the click, the drums will be slightly off which is off putting and vice verse.

since there's no parts in the song that are totally without the drums then would just having the initial 4 or 8 clicks then just the drums themselves work or do you need the click all the way through with the drums bang on?

if we could get away with just the introductary beat ont he click i can have it done in one take tomorrow morning.

aright Jim! nice to see you're doing better- wouldn't be the same without a west-coast influence. In theory it'd work with a click intro - then everyone recording along with the drum track as is- makes it more difficult - in fact it'd be pretty damn hard if there were any breaks in the song at all- but I can't think of one in ITA just now so we might get away with it.

People taking part would have to send their recording with the click intro and just their part - and it means they'd have to be able to listen to the drums whilst playing and not have that on their track. Doable though - and definitely worth a shot.

Yeah Gaz, that'd work if we were going to the original plan but Jim's saying that he may just have to send a short intro and the drums- I.E. no separate click track.

Sorry, think I may have confused you here Gaz, There is no click track- Jim can't get the drums recorded spot on to a click so we'll just have to go over what he's recorded, which having heard him play will be pretty damn close- loads of drummers hate playing to a click so it was a bit of an ask! What I'll probably do is stick the keys down earlier than would go in in a real mix and forward that along so we know where in the track it is- so bassists etc don't get lost- or someone could lay down a guide track with a guitar and basic vocals- either way. Yeah, I've got guitar tracks pro as well , though I'll probably use cool edit pro (Old version of audition) for recording my stuff.

Jim- how's the track coming along, man?

quick update.

i've not went back to it since i've had a bunch of different demo's to do for the band and a recording i want done for me and ms jbj;s anniversary done for the end of the week plus i've had a shitload of work to do for my 1st school placement and sadly JT project goes down the list on that one.

i've decided to record my own scratch track to drum along with so hopefully i can keep the drums bang on the click but i still don't think i'll manage to keep it on the click after the 12/8 breakdown.

i doubt i'll be able to keep to the click perfectly playing the guitar along with it so the drums won't be either so if it's workable, i'll just fade the click out at that point (i'm sure wayne or ice said this would be ok) and let you guys play along with the drums for the last few bars.

if that's not an option (which i can;'t see why it wouldn't be) i'll just leave the 12/8 bit out.

i'm getting there with all the stuff i've been working on so hopefully i can lay a take or 2 down before band practice tomorrow night or wednesday night.
