Default Chelsea sack Ranieri

Chelsea have ended speculation about the future of manager Claudio Ranieri by confirming his dismissal.
The Italian, who spent four seasons at Stamford Bridge, is expected to be replaced by Porto coach Jose Mourinho.

A Chelsea spokesperson said: "Claudio has done a first class job for the club and paved the way for future success.

"We would like to wish Claudio all the best for the future. We are discussing the exact terms of his departure with him and his representatives."

Ranieri had a contract until 2007 but had been tipped for the sack ever since Russian billionaire Roman Abramovich took control of the club last summer.

He maintained the support of the fans as he guided Chelsea to second in the Premiership, but it was not enough.

This sure didn't come as a surprise. I will be surprised if Jose Mourinho beats what Claudio achieved this season. 2nd place in the Premiership is not really a bad result when you look at how brilliant Arsenal was.

Yeah, i think he should have had at least another new season. I dont know how Abramovich believes that the team are gonna gel straight away. It takes many years for a side to get used to each others style of play. I dont think the continous squad rotation helped either. Rach player needs to play with roughly the same players week in, week out. Swapping and changing all the time isnt gonna do anyone any good.

It is nothing but money and sucess and nothing else. And anyone shouldn't be blamed for leaving the team in there peak when they get better offer, coz when there are not in form they going get sack.

not surprised in the slightest, but his successor will never be as passionate as ranieri was. Watching him cry at the end of the final game of the season showed how much he loved the club.

He may have had the passion, but I never thought he was the right man for Roman. He couldnt motivate his team for premiership matches, I dont think he bought that well either. He bought individual players, not a team who could play that well together. If I were a Chelsea fan id be made up about the Porto coach coming.

You can only buy individual players, not teamwork or teamspirit. Teamwork and teamspirit comes with time. Take a look at Arsenal, their teamwork and teamspirit is fantastic, you simply can't buy that. If Roman thinks that during the next season Jose Mourinho can make the current Chelsea squad to play as a team he is out of his mind. Chelsea is still a bunch of individuals not a real team like Arsenal.
