Family 'ripped apart' by loss

The family of the 14-year-old boy killed at a Lincolnshire school have spoken about their grief.
Luke Walmsley died of a single stab wound to the heart after an incident at Birkbeck School in North Somercotes, Lincolnshire, on Tuesday.

In a statement released on Wednesday the family said: "Yesterday we woke up with two children - but today we have only one.

"Our family has been ripped apart and will never be the same again.

"Luke led a full life. He loved sport. He was a member of Grimsby judo club. He played football for North Somercotes under 15s.

"He had his full life mapped out, and wanted to become a policeman when he left school.

"Luke did not deserve this to happen, and we as a family just want justice to be done.

"A future has been taken away from Luke, and Luke has been taken away from us. Our lives will never be the same again."

They added: "We now ask for us to be allowed to grieve on our own.


His mother Jayne told a newspaper: "It is too much to bear - this is an appalling tragedy. I am absolutely devastated."

Fellow pupils have left flowers on a grassy area inside the school gates in tribute to their classmate.

Gary Loveridge, headteacher at Birkbeck School, said: "Luke was a strong and positive boy who was liked by all staff.

"He was very good at sports, and was a boy who shone. We will miss him very dearly.

"Clearly we are all shocked and dazed by what has happened.

"We have a school full of wonderful children and superb staff."


obviously this is more extreme but it seems to be the same type of people who broke my brother's nose for no reason. what would possess a child to want to injure another for no reason? it really is ludicrous.

This is so sad,i can see us going like america were we will have to have metal detectors on the front door.What can posess a young boy to go and kill another like that its mad!

What can you do after that ? try to live ? and why not forgive them ? I'm sorry but I wish I can find them and just finish this story if they did that to my son. These sort of guys will be in prison for a few years and after ???? in a few years we will find some petitions on the net because they will be free soon and so many persons will find this unfair and tragical for the family, but we won't have the possibility to change anything in fact ! They will start a new life ! that's the truth ! that's why i wish these guys were dead already.

it's another child that's killed him.

no hope for him, well, he's gonna be protected, he's gonna be considered (right word ?) like someone sick and as i said before after a while he will start a new life. You know a friend was agressed months ago, they traumatised her children etc ... and one of them is 15 ! we see him from time to time, he's free !

this is really sad, parents shouldnt have to worry about their kdis when they drop them off every morning. Its also sad to think that another child haas performed such an act

This story is really sad and I dont know what goes through peoples minds who do commit such crimes.

Thats horrible. My thoughts are with the family and friends.

That's so terrible! What kind of child could actually kill another...that's just sick and dementing.

Ermm..I am a teacher and I can assure you that we do not have metal detectors at the front door.
