Ermm..I am a teacher and I can assure you that we do not have metal detectors at the front door.
the only 'protection' devices we have are surveilliance cameras every which way you turn.

We don't even have that. We just put in a security system where teachers have to have a swipe card to get in the building, but other than that, nada!

That "protection" isn't even turned on half the time. Half of them are turned off, that's how they missed that huge fight last year in the lunch room.

Our school just got the cameras last year ... our teachers don't need to swipe cards - ANYONE can just enter....but there is a nice sign hanging on the window saying if you are a visitor that you must sign in; which keeps all threat away, of course

i was wondering how that happened. i don't see the point of having them pretend to be on, because no one pays any attention to them anyways.

Hi all,

Human tragedy this. Just shows how sick our society can get.
I wish that the family will find justice through the court's decision, even if won't turn back time.

It's tough though to figure out what to do with the killer kid. What's the limit of age when you can be held responsible of your actions? Is he mentally sick or not? Is there hope that we can make him change? How big is his parents responsibility? And so on...

Jess, I understand your feelings but try turning it the other way around. No offense, but what if your kid was to kill another one? I know it sounds impossible, but the killer kid's parents in that tragedy probably thought it was impossible too. Would you still want the killer executed?

It's such a complex matter... What's sure is that we have to fight any source of violence and ensure education, health and all to everyone.
Easier said than done but it's the only way.

To be honest i cant see Jess's kid or mine ever doing that, we raise your kids well, there must have been something there for that child to have killed in such a way.How ever if it was the law then if our children had done something like that then thats what we would have to face up to.It would be law eye for an eye.

That's a very heavy in meaning thing to say. I believe you're being honest as can be but I don't think anyone can objectively picture oneself in such a situation.

The thing is everybody thinks they raise their kids well. But not everybody does, not everybody can. The best parents on earth could still do something wrong without even knowing it. It's such a thin line.

I guess as long as violence is considered an issue in our civilisations there's a chance it will be considered as one by our kids.
