"artificial life" to me, means that you built it all artificial. here, they are just gonna use some organic material that can grow etc., that has been done before many times, they even cloned a sheep "artificially" out of some cells, now they are going to create some chips out of some ("living") cells or - but i think that will take a few more years - out of small parts of cells / mitochondria...

for me, artificial life, is some kind of "life" that you create out of non-living / non-organic material. well this is a very difficult thing anyway to say, when something is artificial and when not. same thing with "artificial intelligence"...
