Default Climate Crisis

I just watched the Al Gore movie/lecture "an inconvieniant truth".

IMO it is a great shame that the man didnt become president, not only for America but for the rest of the world aswell.

There are certain things that he talks about that make me wonder if the damage we have already done will be too much for the planet to take? , and it is scary.

Ive also just watched the movie/documentary "who killed the electric car". i had no idea that these cars had been made and used in California in recent years, and then removed from the roads for various reasons. (It seems mainly in the interests of continuing the obscene profits made by the oil companies).

I was wondering if Bush is still trying to drill for oil in Alaska or if thats idea has been dropped now?

This planet has lasted for millions, possibly billions of years before we appeared and it will last longer than we will. We might damage the atmosphere and the land but that will only lead to our self-destruction, it will take more than that to destroy this planet.

The problem, or perhaps the solution to the problem, is that we'll run out of fossil fuels within the next 50 years, perhaps faster at the rate we're growing as a species, so there will be a point where we can physically no longer pump all this stuff into the air and will have no choice but to find alternate sources of fuel and power.

If everyone thinks like that though then of course nothing will happen, but everyone who is able to do so recycles and perhaps uses public transport instead of their car sometimes, all little things can make a difference. We have recycling stuff here; we have a green bin for garden waste, cardboard etc, blue bags for paper, a black box for glass and metal and then a regular bin for anything else and we always use them. It doesn't take more than a couple of minutes to split up your rubbish so that some can be used again instead of it all ending up on one of the ever-growing landfills.

i think the whole i cant do anything about it thing is just something us in the UK adhere too.

in germany they're REALLY big on recycling. there's bottle banks and different bins for different materials everywhere.

there's also very little litter lying out on the streets which i found kind of strange but if you think about it. if people in the UK didnt throw all their crap ont he street and we had more recycling depots, different bins etc... the individual doing their little bit along with everyone else would make a difference.

It comes down to not giving a crap and too many people don't give a crap, afterall, why should they have to use normal cars instead of gas-guzzling, fume-pumping mostrosities that they so love to take their kids to school and do their shopping in? <sigh>

Recycling is so much more accessible now than it has ever been so there really is no excuse not to do so and anybody who doesn't is just plain lazy, ignorant and selfish IMO.

I don't feel scared by the government about it, they aren't doing enough if anything. The adverts I've seen for recycling are those cartoon ones "If you recycle a can it might be part of a car, or a plane, or just possibly another can" etc etc and they instead should show landfills and things to make people realise what the problem is, and what will happen to their children and grandchildren if they don't do more to help.
