Cold comfort?

If you have food in the refrigerator, clothes on your back, a roof overhead and a place to sleep ... you are richer than 75% of this world.

If you have money in the bank, in your wallet, and spare change in a dish someplace ... you are among the top 8% of the world's wealthy.

If you woke up this morning with more health than illness ... you are more blessed than the million who will not survive this week.

If you have never experienced the danger of battle,the loneliness of imprisonment, the agony of torture, or the pangs of starvation... you are ahead of 500 million people in the world.

If you can attend a church meeting without fear of harassment, arrest, torture, or death... you are more blessed than three billion people in the world.

If your parents are still alive and still married ... you are very rare, even in the United States.

If you hold up your head with a smile on your face and are truly thankful... you are blessed because the majority can, but most do not. If you can hold someone's hand, hug them or even touch them on the shoulder... you are blessed because you can offer healing touch.

If you can read this message, you are wealthy enough to have an internet connection and power on, and furthermore, you are more blessed than over two billion people in the world that cannot read at all. Have a good day, count your blessings, and pass this along to remind everyone else how blessed we all are.

I try to remember things like the above post when I feel like complaining about how awful things are. Personally, I don't have a lot to complain about in that context. I'd like to add that all my children are alive and in good health. I can't ask for much more.

It kind of makes me seem like an ungratefull bastard since I was just complaining this afternoon about being stuck in traffic for nearly an hour and a half.

Sometimes when I'm complaining about something, it helps to stop and be thankful instead. There's always something that could be worse.

Yeah, like when you have an essay to do and you're half way there but still your mind has gone terribly blank, and it's 1:00 a.m. and you'd like to go to bed but you can't because you have to write that paper today otherwise you'll have no room tomorrow for all the assingments that are gonna clock up your day and shit all over your good mood.

It could be worse, I could be living on the streets with nothing to eat or do or get warm with.
It's amazing.

I was reading something by Marian Keyes today where she said that once she was complaining to her 'mammy' about her hairy legs and her mother replied, 'well, at least you have legs'.

Everything is very different if put in perspective. I've been whiny about many things for a few weeks now and this thing made realise I'm more selfish than I thought.

People. You are all entitled to your complaints.

Just remember to try and act on them, and to take every opportunity you can to make the world a little better.
