you're way too young to do that. you'll probably find yourself thinking differently in a few years. have you ever discussed about engagement and marriage with her (not about the two of you but in general) ? . it might be useful for you to know what she thinks.

My brother was married when he was 19!! Now he's 23, has just built his house and my nephew just hit the big 1 yesterday!!

It just depends, I guess is all I'm trying to say.

fair point christo. as i said we'll need to talk it over a bit more.

i think the biggest thing is when we do we'd rather people be happy than apprehensive.

I say go for it Jim. My parents were married young, mom was 19, dad was 20. They will be celebrating their 35th anniversary next month.

I was 19 and hubby as 22 when we married. But I now have children and one of them is just 2 years younger than yourself. As a parent I would be mortified if my child came home and said she was engaged. Jim if you've been together this long you already have an unspoken committment to each other and she probably feels the same as you about being the "one".

Enjoy being young and doing all those fun carefree things that only this time in your life offers. The engaged serious stuff - you can do for the rest of your lives together. Just because you're not engaged it does not mean you love or committed to each other less.

I know what you're thinking one rule for me and another for you - but remember I've been there - done that.
