Default court witness question

mainly aimed at UK folk.

I got a citation to go to court as a witness in the new year and whereas I don't really want to and can't be arsed, there's not much choice in the matter but how does it work?

is it like jury duty where i could be stuck there for hours before the case gets a slot or are you in when you're told to turn up?

You turn up, then wait to be called. Sometimes they don't get round to you and you have to come back the next day. My advice, take a book!

yeah a dude in work told us how it worked but since no one had replied I didn't think it was worth mentioning it and bumping the thread.

I won't get any hassle out of it because I'm on CCTV giving this guy a beating will I? It wasn't excessive and i wouldn't even have bothered if he hadn't had a go at our wee cleaner who's the wrong side of 65 but I don't want to turn up and his defence start on me.

The defence will always get on your back, it's their job. I'm sure if you were going to get into trouble the rozzers would have hauled you in by now.

aye i thought as much to be honest but I've never been in this situation and I wouldn't be nearly as bothered if it wasn't on camera.

either way the guy deserved it and it coulda been much worse.

cheers for the advice folks.

They can’t have a go at you without charging you with something first.. then you’d get a trial date all of your own… might be able to question your credibility as a witness but it sounds like you did what most people would have done anyway… have worked with the old bill I can honestly say I’ll be surprised if the trial goes ahead on the first stated date if at all (the press for a guilty plea right to the last minute to save court time) and as Davey said it’s days of pissing about for the best part of a couple of minutes giving evidence.
