Dangers of Dope

one of my best mates has been smoking 10-20 a day for about 4 years and has a terrible cough and gets out of breathe easilly.

on the other hand one of m y mates dads has been smoking joints morning till night for decades and you never hear a wheeze or a cough out of him,.

It's actually good news. In the seventies we were told that smoking one joint was the same as smoking 6 cigarettes.

Most people who smoke dope don't smoke it all day - everyday. You can't stay loaded 24/7 (not and keep a decent job LOL). The people that I know smoke occasionally - usually on the weekends. So I doubt that the lung cancer scare is a valid point.

I know people that have gotten lung cancer who have never smoked. The writer Calvin Trillin's wife was one of them.

Speaking from experience, I used to know someone who smoked weed in tobacco joints. As soon as he quit cigarettes and switched to a pipe his godawful cough dissapeared completely.

Obviously anecdotale, but I would guess the big danger is unfiltered tobacco.

I'm also wondering who is behind the weed smear-campaign at the moment. Is it just that it's silly season, or are people really trying to demonise it? I really have to think if the promised dangers were true, we would be seeing something of a mass public health outbreak at the moment. It really has been a commonplace habit since time immemorial.

call me a cynic does anyone find it slightly coincidental that these scathing attacks on weed have come when reclassifying it is on the agenda in westminster?!?!?!

I very rarely smoke it but i think it's kind of stupid people who drink (which i'm positive that these politicians and scientists, plus you malachy enjoy the odd bevvy...) saying: this stuff is bad for your health so you shouldn't do it.

meh, im not extremly against dope, lot of good friends do it, but i dont agree with it, same as i dont agree with smoking.

a pint a day against 1 joint?? meh

i'd imagine the negative affects on health of a joint over a pint every day are minimal if at all.

there's not 250 wasted calories in a joint for a start.

How boring would that guy be? One joint or one pint every night. No more, no less. Ugh.

It always amazes me how people are so easy when it comes to alcohol and seem to think that marihuana is just as dangerous as cocaine! Alcohol has much more long term side effects than marihuana does and on the whole causes more deaths and accidents than smoking does however just because alcohol is a legal drug it seems to be fine...
