No, it doesn't!! Like I said before there is no shame in admitting you need help. Everyone does once or twice in their life. It is the stronger person who admits to needing help instead of trying to work things out on your own.

if your not going to listen to some constructive help then whats the point of people trying to help you?

you're 16 the whole world is against u, later in life u realise that this wasn't actually the case and the young are just stupid.

I've struggled with depression for years. The best thing I ever did was get on a antidepressent. I think most of them work the same way--it takes a couple of weeks (+/-) for the medicine to build up in your system. If you have a chemically based depression, the drugs help regulate the chemicals that are causing you to be off balance.

You don't have to see a psychiatrist to get on mental meds. You can get them from a family practitioner or obgyn (well, that 2nd option might not work for you, Joey. )

While you're young, try to take advantage of the free counseling services around you. There should be a counselor at your school. All counselors are bound by laws and ethics of confidentiality unless your intent is to harm yourself or others.

Good luck.

Becky

i had an ex girlfriend who was on anti depressants for various reasons (she did have problems, wasn;t just a bit down) and she took mad mood swings all the time, was kind of as if they wore off and she went crazy u know.

call me stupid but as becky said, it is a chemical thing and i find that if i'm feelign down or a bit depressed i think to myself, it's all just chemcals in my head and it doesn't make a difference.

works for me.

I got an 18. Thought I would've been much higher. LOL The next one up, or the one after that maybe. They said I'm on the verge of depression or have minor depression, but its impossible to tell.

I just took the test and scored 36 on the Goldberg scale. Which wasn't really surprising, to be honest.

You have reached level 36 on the Goldberg scale.

0 - 9 Depression unlikely
10 - 17 Possibly minor depression
18 - 21 On the verge of depression
21 - 35 Minor to moderate depression
36 - 53 Moderate to severe depression
54+ Severe depression

You have the symptoms of moderate to severe depression. The condition seems to cause serious problems in your everyday life, and you should consult your doctor immediately.

Depression is a disease like any other disease, and it can be treated very effectively. Recognising that you are suffering from depression is the first positive step. If you are depressed, you should arrange to see your doctor to talk about the illness right away. You may also want to raise the issue with your friends and family. You should look for support from these people you until you get well. Anyone can suffer from depression, and the symptoms can vary from person to person. Treatments, including medication and psychotherapy, have a very high success rate.

Please note that this test result is not a certain assessment of your mental health. You should always consult a doctor if you feel depressed or if you feel that worries and anxiety have taken over and affected the activities of your daily life.

I suppose some sort of short term therapy might not be a bad idea.
