WOW carli, that's just AMAZING! congrats!

@ jim: doing weights decreases the kilos you lose cause for the burnt fat you put up muscle-mass- so there's a shift from fat to muscle which is logically a good thing but if one doesn't know that s/he's gonny be unsatisfied with the outcome of the all the work- if you're really fat then the best recommendation is to start with stamina training (DON'T START WITH RUNNING- your joints will appreciate it) and diet (logically)

@ rakel: with corticosteroids you put on weight but most of it comes from water retention- so if you're off the roids you'll lose it rather easy again.

to the diets: imho all these different diets made from self-called dietists are just to rip off ppl- it's absolutely not necessary! just eat properly much and eat healthy! you can eat EVERYTHING it just depends on how MUCH you eat.

low- or no-carb diets are nonsense, too! ppl argue that the body turns glycosis into fat which is basically true. but the body prefers to build up glycogen out of sugar. so if you eat "normal" portions and if you don't eat too much then you don't have to worry bout that. these lowcarb diets are also dangerous cause they say your diet should consist of 10% fat 30% carbs and 60% proteins- some of these diets go up to 80% proteins and if you live that way you'll be set for dialysis within 3 years time cause your kidneys can't handle that and you'll kill 'em - but kidneys are cool for living
this glycosis to fat stuff is highly important for hibernation animals- we don't have a sufficient set of enzymes for that so forget this shiit!

yeah obviously putting on muscle makes it look like you're not losing alot of weight or could actually put weight on and the idea is that you don't do it till you're in decent enough shape.

Low carbing is good for some people. But it needs to be balanced.

That's fantastic Carli. You deserve a huge pat on the back.
I lived with a chubby hubby for years and I watched him try every diet in the world. It was only when he cut down on the amount he ate AND started excercising that he lost weight and kept it off. Different people's bodies deal with calories differently though. I can eat almost anything I want and still don't gain much weight and he can't and never could. Sometimes you have to accept that and deal with it. Life just ain't fair somedays. On the other hand, don't make yourself crazy with someone elses body image. Some people will never be super thin and probably shouldn't.

The problem with carbs isn't that they're fattening.

We pretty much need them for energy, it's when you take them in and don't burn them off.

They turn to glucose (ie sugar) or something like that inside you giving you alot of energy but if you don't work it off then it turns to fat.

The Atkins diet is nota proper or long term solution to keeping weight off.

Somethign for the guys wanting to build upper body strength. I've just started doing press ups on my knuckles but with them at a 45 degree angle as opposed to vertical or horizontal (imagien breakign a stick in front of you till it's in a V shape, thats what your fists are like) it's pretty intense on the knuckles but it works a big arch right up your arms and across your upper back and pecs. should try doing 3 reps of as many of them as you can every night.
