Default Digital DAB radio advice

Do you have a digital radio ? If so what is the reception/sound like?
My daughter has asked what I want for xmas... I would like to get a better reception on my radio but have heard from one person I know that DAB is not as good as its made out to be.

Any opinions on this would be helpful, thanks.

Dawn

Digital radio is basically just audio like MP3 (they use the older MP2 format, but basically the same thing) If you have digital tv (Sky, Cable, Freeview) you can find most major DAB radio stations on there. My Dad has a DAB digital radio in his hi-fi that he uses and it seems OK, you will get data through, probably a little screen that displays what station it is, information on what the show is etc

As for the signal, I would presume that even in weak signal areas you'd get better 'reception' with digital radio than analogue, though someone else will have to comment on that.

thankyou Mr Anderson. I think I am more concerned as where I am on the edge of England I cant receive Freeview, so I guess this is making me feel like it maybe a problem to get DAB also.

If you can't get freeview I wouldn't hope on getting any DAB radio channels either

Streaming Internet radio is probably lower bitrate than DAB. I think DAB is about 192-256kbps whereas streaming stuff would be <128kbps I think
