Just a few links... If "rock" exists, how come no ones knows what it is? There are different kinds of rock music, progressive rock, glam rock, heavy rock but their father (or grandfather or whatever) is rock & roll. There is no such thing as "rock" in music genres.

You can't define rock any more than you can define any of the other catagories. What is prog rock to somebody, is rock to somebody else. Thus, if you want my definition of rock I can't give it in formula's, other than to say from the Dylan concerts onwards. That movement that started with Dylan, and inspired Purple, and Zeppelin to move into what I see as rock music. Yes, elp are still rock bands, even though it's progressive.....

No, their godfather is blues music. If you listen certainly to what I define as rock msuic (purple, Zeppelin, Floyd), there are much more links with blues, and even into jazz than American rock and roll.
