No, I won't be giving a gun to any child to play with, whether they're 1 year old or 35 years old. You don't "play" with a gun, and anyone who does, or who enables that sort of behavior is irresponsible and in my eyes, undeserving of the responsibility of their weapon.

Quite frankly yes, I am for a world where people carry weapons with them. I say this with no ill intentions, but I don't believe it will make a difference to you when I say that the areas of the US where people can carry firearms with them are some of the safest places in the country. But I would require no one to carry a weapon or even own one.

Find me one post anywhere on this board, from any time in the past, any time that I've posted about guns, that says I don't believe firearms should be handled with care and treated as a great responsibility. You can't and never will, so please don't speak "for" me.

Adrian - you keep taking everything I say way too personally. If I quote you doesn't necessarily mean I am putting words in your mouth or talking specifically at you.

I respect your opinion, but don't share it. I'd loathe to live in a world where most people carried guns with them or had them tucked under their pillows. Because instead of feeling more secure I'd feel the opposite way. And that's my opinion and you might come up with a million stats showing how good guns are and whatever. I'll not buy it. I've never had a gun in my life, wouldn't fire one even if I got paid.

To me, keeping a gun to feel secure is as much of a paradox as saying "fighting for peace" and that kind of thing.

I feel pretty safe here, we don't have any guns or anything, wouldn't want any. I'd like a sword perhaps but more for ornamental purposes lol

I think if someone got in and was stupid enough to go near the kitchen my dog would kill them, he's only a bordercollie but he's damn vicious against strangers who come into the house, even family and friends he doesn't know.

hit the nail on the head. The ironic thing is it's the guns that harbour this fear in the 1st place. It's like: If I get robbed by a guy with a knife I can shoot him, if i get robbed by a guy with a gun, we're pretty even.

I on the other hand posses some common sense and whenever I've been in situations where knives or anything like that has come out I've got myself and everyone I know the **** out of there pronto.

Not quite true in the USA. You're between sixty and eighty percent more likely to be a victim of a violent crime involving a knife or fists as weapons than a gun. In fact, if you compare gun homicide rates with defensive gun uses, you're more likely to use one in self defense than you are to be a victim of a crime involving a gun.

You quote my post about teaching children to use firearms responsibly and safely, and then post that they will go to school to show them off...and I shouldn't take that personally? Who was I supposed to think that was directed at? Allmike? Jim? cih_hr? I respect your opinion on the topic too. I have said time and time again, I would if given the power, force no one to own or carry or even like guns. If you simply refuse to look at valid statistics or consider the issue, that's your right. None of our opinions matter so long as they stay just opinions. When people (and this is not directed at you) legislate based their fear or ignorance or personal preference, they punish harmless, educated, responsible people like myself and all the other millions of gun owners and condemn many tens of thousands of people per year to death, injury, loss of property, or loss of dignity. That is unnacceptable.

I've always felt very safe in my house. We only locked the doors at night, and that was just really because we always thought we should, not because we needed too. I've only been in my new place for two days now. So far, I feel safe. We left the moving truck and our cars open and unlocked the entire weekend while we were moving and I wasn't one bit worried.

Florida has a high crime rate, but that's because there is a lot of crime against the elderly here. Like people taking advantage of them and stealing money from them and what not.

As for owning a gun, I personally wouldn't want one in my house, but I can't tell someone else they can't own one! Mistakes happen and I don't think you're any safer with a gun around.

How about we all start teaching our kids not use guns, or any other weapon, or violence at all? You want to feel responsible? Be and show the example and solve the problem rather than the symptom.
Otherwise you'll just be participating in the escalation of violence.
I am very aware that this is utopic, but I'd rather follow this utopia then yours which I see as shortsighted and submissive.

Beyond that I wouldn't teach anyone who hasn't been through is teenage years how to find and use a gun. Over 60% of teen suicides are commited with a gun, it's also the same age that suffers the most from deadly gun accidents.

Legislating about giving the right to own guns for self-defense is also based on fear, it also leads to injuries or deaths of innocent people. Just as unacceptable.

Our neighbours are bloody paranoid - doors always locked and sometimes they arm their security systems when they are in the house!

I thought everyone did that anyways?

but when has common sense ever got in the way of mr moore's agenda.
Does what anyways - leave the front door unlocked? Some of the houses in my neighbourhood have more security features than some Canadian Armed Forces bases. Seriously hard-core - motion sensors, flood lights, bars on the windows, security systems. It's crazy.
