Default Americans or anyone else, I need your help.

Aloha !

I'm making a huge project on different designs and am currently working on Art Deco. There's a picture of buildings that shows pretty well how Art Deco went into Modernism and I'd like to use it. However, I don't know what all buildings are, so if anyone could name them I thank you very much.

1. Chrysler Building
2. Empire State Building
3. Rockefeller Center

Salaam Aleikum,
Sebastiaan

Chrysler Building - first one from the left
Empire State Building - second one from the left
Rockefeller Center - third from left (it's actually a cluster of buildings)

All three are awesome and if you like the art deco style are simply awesome examples. If you don't like it - they have been accused of being overdone. Personally, I have always loved art deco but that may be because I grew up with a lot of it.

That picture looks like a comparison of the worlds tallest erections

Yeah, I love it myself as well. A part of my project is showing people that styles from the early days come back years later. A good example of Art Deco returning every once in a while are the Batman movies where Tim Burton but also other directors have used Art Deco as the style to give Gotham City a distinct feeling. They often use Art Deco, Futurism and Modernism as styles to give a certain city a certain dark feeling.

Salaam Aleikum,
Sebastiaan

I loved how Tim Burton did that, made Gotham City feel like a character instead of a place. Take note Christopher Nolan

Well, that's all I have to add to this thread I'm afraid.

I believe the one furthest to the right is the Willis tower in Chicago. It was previously known as the Sears tower.

Next along, second from the right, is the John Hancock center.

Try and match up the pictures: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of..._United_States

I always found that interesting in those movies. I never saw Art Deco as dark or sinister - I actually see it as light. But it sure worked in those movies.

Now my Mother, who grew up during the depression (1930's) absolutely hates Art Deco and does think it's dark. Probably because most of those buildings were built during the 30's and she associates that style with very depressing and hard times.
