http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Hangover

from the good folk at wikipedia:

A hangover (veisalgia) is the sum of unpleasant physical effects following heavy consumption of alcohol. The most common reported characteristics of a hangover are feelings of extreme thirst, lethargy, nausea, sensitivity to sunlight and noise, and headache. Hypoglycemia, dehydration, and vitamin B12 deficiency are all theorized causes of hangover symptoms

An alcohol hangover is associated with a variety of symptoms that may include dehydration

Hangovers are multi-causal. Ethanol has a dehydrating effect (such substances are known as diuretics), which causes headaches, dry mouth, and lethargy. Dehydration causes the brain to shrink away from the skull slightly.[3] This can be mitigated by drinking water after consumption of alcohol.

personally i've never heard the idea that it's a withdrawal symptom. surely if it was you'd feel bad whether you'd had one or two beers or 15.... which we know doesn't happen.

lol wy say that! you looking to get me started? anyway who said i didnt drink and drink! and who says its for anything other than thirst?? i didnt mention about getting drunk! so feck ye! lol

anyway hangover is caused by blood cells in the brain becoming narrower as i recall from my school days! my advice is go home drink a shit load of water. my mum said that for every print of drink take a glass of water! also warm milk and cornflakes always prove a big hit with me so there may be something in that! its what i do ever time when i come home from a big drinking nite (im very thristy!) and i havnt had a hangover yet!

If hangover was just dehydration, you'd get hangovers from anything that causes you to sweat, basically. Or eating salty foods.
