Default DVD zones question

If I copy a European DVD (zone 2, is it?) - can someone in the USA watch it if they don't have a multizone DVD player? Does copying keep the zone? Is there anything that can be done so it doesn't?

Well it depends how you copy them, I use DVDShrink and it offers an option to remove the region coding or change it to a specific region.

Or use dvddecrypter to copy and reburn and you can remove the region code. PAL to NTSC or vice versa is harder to do and the video quality will suffer. Changing the region code is not a problem though.

I don't think that PAL to NTSC would be too bad but since PAL uses more lines than NTSC, but vice versa then yes it wouldn't be too good.

I don't think I've used DVDDecrypter but DVDShrink is very simple to use and it can auto-set eveything when you load up a disc, and since content usually needs to be shrunk to 50% to fit on a single layer disc quality will suffer anyway.

www.videohelp.com is a good website for information and they have a forum too for asking questions (but if I remember correctly/they still use the same policy you have to wait for 4 days from joining before they create your account, which seems quite odd)

Region coding is there because major companies want to control when and where their products can be viewed. To make it short, many times movies shown in european theaters are already released in USA as dvd, so companies want to prevent those been sold to homes.

MONEY Sometimes they only release something in one part of the world and they don't want other people to be able to have access to it.
I think that the CD format was the only thing that everyone in the world ever agreed upon. Any cd bought can be played anywhere in the world. Video has different regions 1-8 and also 3 different formats PAL, NTSC and SECAM. And then DVDs themselves have different formats +R and -R.

Well I donīt know how you define the best burner? How do you define the best car? These things are tested in different magazines and looks like each magazine picks different burner as the best.

Awhile ago in here there was one test, and the winner was LiteOn SOHW-1633S. That isnīt the latest model though. There are newer versions already. I have that one as well and Iīve been very happy with that. Of course others might say that there are better ones and that could be true.

Iīve been burning mostly DVD-R and DVD-RW.
