My "Yankee" roommate Colleen MADE me try her hot tea with milk in it. I told her that if I ever ingested poison to make me drink that. Tea is what I drink with most meals. I can only equate how disgusting putting milk in tea is to me by telling you that I would feel the same way about putting milk in Coke. LOL

I've never put milk in tea. That sounds gross to me.

I forgot to add NY Bagels too. Something with the water makes them tasty. Some guy opened up a bagel shop in Florida and actually had water shipped in from NY because that is what makes the bread so good.

Oh my god, where to begin.

I moved from Germany to Florida.

This is in order of importance:

What I missed most is the bread. Americans know nothing about bread. They even remove the "crust" of white bread that doesn't have a crust to begin with. I am used to bread with seeds in it, sourdough, dark, rye, all kinds of different flavors. In the US you get white and white with food-coloring to make it look like whole wheat (this is only slightly exaggerated).

I finally found a German bakery where I got "real" bread. Then I moved to Seattle. Same thing all over without a German bakery I stopped eating bread

Next: Beer. Budweiser does not qualify for beer. It is flavored water - nothing else. Makes you pee alot. I am talking about BEER!!! Stuff that has taste - substantial taste. I used to get the imports at certain liquor stores, but have settled for Samuel Adams. I actually bought Weissbier glasses and brought them back to the US, so I could drink the imports properly.

Then: Beergardens, streetcafes. Just sitting at a restaurant, chatting, drinking beer, ahhh. Won't happen here, cause once you are done with your food you are expected to pay and make room for the next party. Which brings me to tablecloth!!!! Nobody heard of it here. Ok, you do get a table with tablecloth, but only in the better restaurants ... any "everyday" restaurant wouldn't know what they look like.

Leberkaessemmeln.

Those are the most important ones and the ones I miss mostly. Every time I go back to Germany, I go out for dinner and drinks almost every day, just because it sooooo nice in the old country :P

On the other hand, there are lots of things I like better over here and wouldn't want to miss them. I think once I am retired I'll be living half the year in Seattle and half the year in Munich

That was your big mistake! Food in Florida sucks in general. It tastes different. I don't know why...but I just know that I have yet to find a decent bagel in this state. There is only one pizza place worth a crap around here. And if I want to get a good hoagie, well....I've yet to find one. There is one deli that is pretty good, but still not the same as up north. Food in New York and New Jersey is just out of this world when compared to food in Florida. We can't even make good "southern" food like barbeque.

Salt and vinegar is just not a combo in Holland!! The thought of salt and vinegar on chips is disgusting for most Dutch people!!
I wish they would sell the salt and vinegar crisps here, it was perfect when Marks & Spencers was here.. but now I have to pay a ridiculous amount for a pack of crisps!
