Totally agree! If you're teaching a language you should know the basics at least. And critical acclaim isn't the most difficult example in the world..

my german teacher spoke 10 languages 'fluently', but she won't have known every french phrase; particularly one such as that which probably doesn't translate very well.

when i was in the US, i talked to a german teacher who also spoke german "fluently". found out pretty soon that we understood each other much better in english, he actually did not undertand a single sentence correctly. so don't say that this word is so easy and every english teacher should know it...

well they should at least be able to look it up though...

I'm curious to know where all this bitterness is coming from...or maybe I'm not... you made it up yourself (i.e. the absolute superiority of the English language) without anyone even hinting at it and now you're agreeing with yourself on this point. I find it quite amusing to be honest

I'm not surprised when you misspell words like "really". Anyway, "critical acclaim" is an everyday term, one that any self-respecting English teacher should know.

Nice attitude.

Yes, I speak fluent Finnish, Swedish and English, understnad German and French and a little bit of Dutch. And I'm also intelligent enough not to think learning English or any other language is bad for you.

to think that an english teacher must know every english word, just because he's an english teacher is as stupid as thinking that your physics teacher must understand general relativity theory!
Every physics teacher MUST understand the relativity theory, otherwise they don't understand physics as all our knowledge of physics is based on it.

And I didn't say a teacher should know EVERY word, but if he doesn't know the meaning of "critcal acclaim", he's just a crappy teacher.

??? Maybe YOU would need an English teacher. Either you can't read or you can't write.

Yeah, me too. First you come up with a statement, then you agree with it and now you find it amusing. Must be fun having a multiple personality disorder...

Yeah I agree with Ice lol nobody else came up with that and he's backing it up himself based on things people haven't said at all. I wish I had such powers too!

totally wrong again. not even true for the special relativity theory. there are many independent areas in physics, most of them have nothing to do with relativity theory. like heat theory, quantum physics, string theory, ...

don't try to teach me about physics or maths!!

i don't know why you all now talk about me because i only tried to defend that english teacher

I am wondering the same thing. Mreto, in all seriousness, you seem to read much more into some of these posts than what is there. You are quick to jump on things that aren't even meant to be insulting. Where is the hostility coming from?
