Well I posted this on Seb's board too - and I fell very strongly about it. It's one thing to use taxpayers money to stop official copyrighted material from being traded - copyrights are there for a reason. It's another thing to use taxpayers money to intimidate a site that went out of its way to screen out anything official. You would think that they would have better things to do with their time.

They even stopped the trading of material from bands that specifically requested it not to be traded.

BitComet is a bit torrent client (a program for downloading torrent files), it's not a tracker where the files are attached and others can download from.

The biggest problem here is the failure of the record companies to even acknowledge that there is a vast difference between PIRATING, and BOOTLEGGING.

I'd say we all pretty much agree that pirating is wrong. Not only is it illegal, but it's immoral. Bootlegging is different, in that it offers a source of material NOT available through any official channels. If these concerts were available from the bands, no-one would bother with crap quality audience copies. I wonder how many people bother trading audience copies of Metallica's last tour, when you can buy a soundboard copy for $10 from the band?

The facts though, as the law stands right now, is that bootlegging is equally illegal - suck, but it's true. The law does not allow for a definition of 'official' work...it's ALL official in their eyes since on the ticket for all concerts it states that you may not record it. Thus, the minute you do you violate copyright law.
