I was brought up catholic, was baptised, confirmed, had communion, went to catholic school, went to church every Sunday.

To me god is very much like Santa Claus. When your young you believe in this "magical place" called heaven where you go when you die and you get to do whatever you want and the place is full of clouds. And there is a man named god sitting on a huge throne. And he is bigger than everyone else, has a long white beard, white hair, & white robes.

But when you grow up and think about this...you realise it doesn’t exist, just like Santa Claus.

I don't believe that a man carried a cross, was nailed to it, hung on it, died on it, buried and then arose from the dead. All for our sins....yeah. That’s just too hard to believe.

I don't believe there is a god. I’m not sure if I believe that there is a higher power.

But saying all that I want to get married in a church….in the church in my town. I want my future kids to be baptised in that church.

Thats exactly what I think. It's all about as believable as father christmas or the easter bunny.

Yet I'm curious why...

Perhaps I can understand the being married in a church thing because it's what most people do, but surely if you don't believe in any god then why would you need to be married in a church, and have any children baptised.

I know I wouldn't, I'd want them to grow up not believing in anything, and being raised to be an intelligent, good and honest person, and then when they where old enough they could decide for themselves if they wished to follow a religion.

As for the marriage thing to me it's just a piece of paper and a ring, it doesn't mean anything but is only really a day to show everyone else how much you love each other. If I ever did get married I would find a beautiful beach or somewhere outdoors, not just go to a church because it's what everyone else does, and I wouldn't bother with an official to do it or even have it made official, just for us and our families and friends.

Because I love the church in my town. Its is simply beautiful. Getting married on a beach or somewhere like sounds realy nice too. But its not for me. I want to get married here in that church... To be honest I dont ever see myself getting married but if I do its where I want it to be.

And I would definetly want it in some way official. Watching some tv shows where two people arent married officially and one person is dying and the other isnt legally allowed to make any decisions about the person they love is heartbreaking.

The baptising thing....I don't know. I really dont. I just know I want it. Not the other things....communion, going to church, confession....just the baptism.

Yes well hopefully something like that wouldn't happen.

As to the baptising thing again, it doesn't really mean anything to a child because they won't remember it, and if they choose not to follow that religion when they are older then it was a waste of time, and if they did they could always just get baptised when they are older.

Just that, a higher power
Isn't that what we all call God?. At least that what i call though and i also strongly beleive that nature is nothing but God also....
No it's not. Like Crash said it is nature. I do not believe that there is someone that has defined everything. For all I know it is aliens!
I believe there are paths that you can follow in your life and you choose your path, which naturally leads to other things. I do not believe there is a "God" who has decided what my life will be. The rest just nature and science of course..

Why is it, that every time that things like evolution or science are brought up in the same context as "higher power" or nature, someone, usually a religion-practicing person brings up god as the answer? Why the need to force feed religion on people who clearly say that they do not believe in god of any kind?

Because people need to label things and to believe in a higher power really secretly means you believe in God...

I think the baptising thing has more to do with tradition really than anything else. Everyone in my family has been baptised going back, and the same christiaing dress has been used for everyone....its tradition.

No one force fed anything onto anyone. If I read correctly Allwyn was just stating his opinion and asking a question. Surely taht's still allowed

I admire people who believes in something. they have something that I don't have which I actually would like to have, but it's quite difficult to just start believing.. to bad though.
