I mention him! He's my favorite painter. It's just amazing how real his paintings look. It's a perfection that I've never seen again. And what I especially like is that not everything that he made looks so dark like it is with many other painters. I know that many "experts" like such dark pictures but I think it's not necessary only to paint that way.

i'm not that well up on art but I know a fair bit about his work just through my Russian history...

in fact i have an essay on realism in the arts (Baudelaire etc) so if anyone wants to help me out please it is:

"How influential were the arts in the nineteenth century?"

Monet is my favorite, with Hopper and Degas both being a close second.
Plus there are some paintings by various artists that I like...
