Oh yes - I've been baking my own bread for 25 years - sourdough, Italian and lots of other types. I would not give up bread. On the other hand - most desserts don't do much for me so I don't eat "em (unless it's chocolate).
Good for you Becky - you are doing it the healthy way.

Kathleen

Mmmmmm...fresh baked bread! I would love that. The one thing I do miss about Staten Island is the bread. It isn't as good as homemade but close. I like dinner much better than dessert. Plus, I hate chocolate. I know, I am weird.

The best change you can make to your diet to lose weight is to cut out all processed carbohydrate. This means chips, white bread, sugary drinks, crisps, sweets, anything with Dextrose, Maltodextrin etc. Apart from the fact that these foods will increase insulin resistance and in the long run could cause type-II diabetes, especially when eaten on a regular basis, insulin, being an anabolic hormone, will cause nutrients to be stored in adipose tissue (Fat!) during times other than after exercise, especially when insulin levels are elevated to extreme and unstable levels. The main culprit of this is processed carbohydrate such as the sources mentioned above. The use of high Glycemic index carbohydrates after exercise is even being disputed now, so the bottom line is - no more chips!!!

If anyone wants any advice on weight loss, I'd be happy to help and can provide you with some useful articles on the subject.

So basically I'm starving myself.
Someone could explain it better than I can...but when restrict your body food, it causes it to do something.
same here, I often don't eat until 2pm - by then I am starving and gobble down anything. sometimes I only eat once a day I've done it too long and I know my metabolism is completely out of whack. So, part of my ny resolution, I am going back to having breakfast - though I really don't want to. I figure I can manage a 10 o'clock breakfast though - there is no way I can eat anything before that though.

I think you are referring to the Atkins diet - no carbohydrates.
