why? and no, this isn't a rhetorical question. I am just curious as I live in the US and foreign policies are not something that are on the news generally, unless they involve GIs, I really have no clue what makes a country suitable to join and what not.[img][/img]

Turkey has a lot of progress to make in human rights, women rights, minorities rights and democracy. The EU must be very strict on this as well as on their economical status and their border security means and policies.
It will be a long way for them.

that's exactly why they shouldn't be let in until they've sorted all of it out. Greece stills houldn't be in it as I've already mentioned for failing to meet some of these criteria too so using them as an example of an advantageous bordering country doesn't really work.

FACT - they're murderous scum

on a lighted related food / turkey note. there's a turkish kebab shop in the town that boggles the mind as to why anyone would actually eat in it. to say it's filthy is an understatment. I wouldn't even take a shite in the place.

yet another reason not to like them

I've seen plenty of English chippys that were foul and filthy.. that is a silly reason..

And I think that Turkey, as long as they meet with EU standards and work on their Human and Civil Rights, can join.

and as a result, wouldn't not letting them anywhere near the thing, even casual negotiations not be the best plan of action until they sort it out?

would give them something to aim for no? n would show how much they want it.
