Funny, because a close member of my family lived in Ankara for over a year after having lived for a similar period of time in Germany and was much happier living in Ankara among those people you so (not) well define.

What was implied was: have you ever been there and are in a position to pass such a judgement? I guess not.

Dragging us down? That's just because you're used to the awful equivalents to those situations: what about rape? what about sexual harassment in offices and such? What about women still being discriminated (read: paid less, less well considered, etc) in supposedly modern countries?

Each country has its ups and downs, not because you're accustomed to something makes things more acceptable.

Take Britains double standards with regards to gender. times it by about 20, add some society approved infringement of that one then you're kinda close to where turkeys at.

this is why the UK wants **** all to do with europe. you all want to be one big happy family where everyones fair and equal but everyones not fair and equal. there are decent countries, semi good countries and absolute shit holes and as soon as people get round that idea then letting in said shithole countries isn't as enticing.

So what? That only goes to prove that we're still dealing with similar problems to theirs.
