As a student of the English language, what bothers me with some of these -ic/ical words is that you just can't give a rule as to which is chosen at what time. What's the difference between the two phrases above, and why is the one used chosen over the other..?

This is also what I love about the language

Isn't it ironic, don't you think? A little too ironic, I really do think...

No I don't actually Goose I understand it completely. It's the nature of the language. But it still bothers me. Not bothers as much as intrigues me.And I know a guy who actually wrote his master's thesis on -ic/ical, so I'm not the only one raising this point...

English as opposed to German... German: rules for everything. English: exceptions to rules for everything.
