Its a good idea to find a different alternative to petrol and diesel but as yet i dont think theres any good ones to replace it. rape seed oil is surposed to be good in diesels aswell . thinking about running my van on it see if it works . only trouble is its got to be mixed with diesel as it will clog up the fuel pump and injectors . I do think the the tax has got to be brought down abit as its affecting the whole econemy too much at the moement and could have a downward spiral on everything.

But there are.
The combustion engine has been antiquated for decades, but alternatives still cost too much, in development, production, establishment and over all.
As long as the combustion engine is cheaper than all alternatives, the industry will do jack shit to drop that profitable business, e.g. they only do as much R&D as is good for their image, not for the environment.
So, from that point of view I can only support higher fuel prices (though they are for other reasons, unfortunately). As an individual, of course, it pisses me off as well.

Not if more renewable power sources are found/used.

Again for people driving diesel, just get the cheapest oil you can get in the supermarket wich you use for cooking. It's a few cts a litre
People in Holland are driving on that for years. Supermarkets have had to buy in 240% more then usual since then.
It's still not illegal over here + there still hasn't been any mechinical problems anywhere.
