These exact words that have been said to you have been said to me on a regular basis for the past 20 yrs. The guy was hoping if he didnt come on strong that you would go over to him.
A decent line from a guy would not concentrate on your looks and would say :
you are a very pretty woman but I would like to see if your personality matches your face !!!!!!!!!! I would go out with anyone who said that to me immediately.

Oh I agree its a line , but its a decent one.
Its hard for guys to approach women without sounding like they are throughing a line at you.
When in truth a hi , how are you , would be just fine.
