We used to have to be able to draw the individual states of Australia as well as the whole country...including the main features [main rivers, mountains etc.] You live in one place and think it will be a piece of cake, but it's a lot harder than you think when you have to draw it freehand in an exam.

I still run into people from o/s [either in person here on hols or on the net] who think Sydney is the capital of Australia [it's not]...and there are heaps of aussies who don't know what or where Mt. Augustus is

We can be just as bad as anyone...this map is how a lot of aussies view the world.

Actually, we had to learn all the states in geography classes. I think we spent about 6 motnhs on North American continent.

With reference to that upside down map well due to the fact that there is no real up, down, left or right in space then it could actually be drawn like that, maybe even sideways if you like or diagonally.
