My earlist memory was having my tonsils out, can't remember it hurting though, although I can remember the pain I had before I had them out. It will be worth it though but I do think the whole "!ce cream makes a sore thoroat better" is a big myth..

I don't think you got ice cream but ice lollies, this just so that you keep your throat moist and the coldness kind of numbs the pain. Anyway that's what my sister told me.. thankfully I never had to have them out.

I'm getting 2 and a half weeks off school (which rules!), but the downside is that I will hardly see my friends for that period
Is it really true that they can grow back ??

Of course it's really true. MINE grew back! LOL It's not as likely with laser surgery though.

They don't advise ice cream though because any dairy product can make your throat worse.
We do advise ice-cream (I am a nurse and except ortho and cardiovasc we have ENT patients) and we always order icecream in the hospital kitchen when we know someone is having a tonsillectomy. ENT dr orders us to give the patients water with ice from the minute they're back in their room. Anything cold you can eat/drink, no hot things (bleeding!). About the pain.... The older you are, the more painfull it is. You're only 17, I am 27, ENT wants to remove them (had a sore throat the whole summer) but i refused.
Nurses huh
GOOD LUCK
Leen
