Some of my friends went to see the Atlanta-based Slippery When Wet tribute band in Johnson City, Tennessee, on Friday night. They only played one new song - WWBTF - and according to the reports I got, they butchered it. (Of course, the text messages I got were coming from drunk people, so you never know.) It sounds like you're WAY ahead of them!

LOL. Hopefully people don't feel similarly about our covers.

Incidentally, that was one of the main reasons I was hoping the album would leak early. We'd then get more time to look at some of the new material and have a better chance of having it ready before the show. There's obvious room for improvement but we don't think they're too bad for first efforts.

I'm sure people don't. And don't get me wrong, we love SWW. We wouldn't keep going back if we didn't! They're actually pretty good, and we get a "fix" when there's no real Jovi around. Everybody wins.

gah damn this shoddy connection, it'll take me about 10 minutes to stream all of superman tonight on youtube.

Whats the grv like as a venue gav?

some guy tried to get me to do a gig there earlier in the year but i didn't know anything about it so passed.

I have a gig in Saudi Arabia!!!!

And it's a mega fubar one at that

The music teacher in school is a really nice indian guy and im always in his room playing the guitars or drums or keyboards and last week he asked me if I wanted to do a few tunes out on the school playing fields for his friends. I thought he meant he was having a party so I said cool.

He said good, it's for my church, you are a christian aren't you? (ummm) it's going to be a church service.

so i'm thinking of a tune to play and was going to go with hallelujah

then he asked for the lyrics and i thought it would maybe be a bit risque, these people are VERY literal so might misconstrue the song.

So I'm thinking about tunes and I come up with bang a drum and hand him the lyrics. He looks them over and says, this is good. Can you do a powerpoint of the lyrics so people can sing along?

I said why not just photocopy a bunch of the lyric sheets and he said there's going to be between 600-800 people there!!!!

So essentially what we have is an agnostic playing a bon jovi tune to every Indian christian this side of a country in which public religious services that aren't muslim are punishable by the lash

rock n roll man, rock and roll.

We're gutted 'Bullet' didn't get aired due to annoying tuning issues on the guitar - the bottom Eb being tuned down to C for the song worked fine in the house earlier in the day but it just wouldn't read it on stage for some reason or another so we had to abandon it. The other new ones went really well on the whole.

Here's the setlist and a few vids to follow:

We Weren't Born To Follow
Bad Name
It's My Life
Born to be my Baby
Superman Tonight (video to follow)
Always
Have A Nice Day
Runaway
Wanted
I'll Be There For You (video to follow)
Thorn In My Side (video below)
Bad Medicine/Shout
Keep The Faith
Prayer

Just a short set as we were only given an hour and a half's stage-time but it was great fun and hopefully we'll be back there soon.

Thorn In My Side:

Ross lost his place a little at the beginning but hey ho, first time playing it.

EDIT:

Superman Tonight:

The drums sounds mighty on those vids. Is that a Ludwig kit?

It's either going to be awesome or a complete train wreck,

Hopefully it'll be the former but I asked him if I would have any monitors and he just said: don't worry we have an amazing massive system.

This coming from the music teacher that needed me to build the school drum kit and was surprised to find out that drumkits that aren't bought from argos don't come with cymbals and a stool

i'll try and get some pictures cos it'll be a really nice time of day when the sun is just going down.

the last gig I played was in one of glasgow uni's main lecture halls and the one before that was in a castle. I really need a dive bar to play soon

Yeah it's a Ludwig and I was quite surprised that a digital camera picked up so much low end through it's crappy little microphone.

Jim, that gig sounds great. 800 people!?!

Hope it goes well man. When is it?

The GRV as a venue isn't too bad tbh. The sound engineer was very good as well but, as is the case with a lot of city centre clubs wherever you are in the country, the management leaves a lot to be desired and the general ticketing system stinks.

I don't know if it's something the venue would consider in the future but, if we could avoid the need for a fairly useless and dishonest booker, it could be a more appealing place to play. The guy did no promotion whatsoever and we didn't even get listed in the evening news or gig guide despite the fact that it was included in his fee.

It's this friday. apparently they're sending a driver for me at 5pm very rock n roll even though i can just about see the stage from my flat

saying that, if i've learned anything from this place is take everythign with a grain of salt because nothing goes to plan. i'm going to guess that there will either be no one here at all or twice as many.

Is that the SWW that dresses in all the old 80s stage gear? I know there's a few SWWs over in the US but the 80s themed one is really good if the youtube vids are anything to go by.

It's funny that you mention a Jovi "fix" though as one of the crazy ladies that follows our gigs quite closely refers to it as getting her Jovi "fix" as well. LOL

As you say, everybody wins - it is pretty fun to be able to get up on stage and play all the classics.
