Whats the point in that. One person not buying meat aint gonna do crap lol. You go to a supermarket and not buy meat then some fatty behind you buys double so it really dont matter.

joviscout, that case is arguable..

But as for me, when I decide not to eat or buy any meat.. I know that I'm at least making some kind of effort.. and I know that my stomach isn't becoming a graveyard for animals.

looking at it economically. animals are a resource as far as food is concerned why should we not use a resource because we think it's cruel?

u cant have a healthy diet without at least some meat either.

re-read this - then think. I would like to think that the human species has evolved. Though, sometimes I am not so sure....

Meat is not fattening, you can't get disesases (at least not any more than from eating just veggies) from meat and it IS actually healthy to eat meat. Humans are omnivores by genetic background, our digestive system is made to make use of both meat and plants. If you take either one away it's unhealthy.

If you want to stay healthy and live long, don't eat. There's a recent study showing that by cutting 30% of your food intake (that's one third!), you live longer and healthier. But I wouldn't count on "happier"...

And how many of you vegetarians smoke? Do you know what that does to animals? How many use leather clothes? I could go on, but I just think that vegetarism based on "animal cruelty" and such is pretty hypocrite. I know people who are vegan, strictly refusing any animal related products. I can understand that, but I've also seen how difficult it is. But if you're gonna do something, why do it half-assed?

Meat is fattening, there is fat in animal products, why else do you think that diary and animal products are to be cut out of your diet if you are dieting. You can't get diseases from meat? That's rich.. let me name them for you: Mad Cow's disease (BSE or KJD), salmonella, the pig plague and let's not forget foot and mouth disease.
Humans are omnivores, however strangely enough our bodies do not digest meat very well. It takes approximately 24-48 hours for us to pass it through, that means for anything up to 2 days it is rotting in our intestines, nice thought I think..
Nowadays, meat isn't that healthy anyway, most of the protein that should be there isn't due to the fact that the animals are pumped with hormones and other crap and it is filled with water (just pierce a chicken fillet and you can tell). There are enough meat substitutes around so you don't have to have meat in your diet. There is more protein and iron in Broccoli and spinach anyway. And for the rest? That is why vitamin supplements were invented!

They aren't. That's old news. Turkey has max 7% fat in it, usually none, unless you add it. Beef has about 10% depending on the part you're using.

There's no proof that BSE or KJD transmit to humans via food. Salmonella you can get easier from unwashed vegetables. If you cook the meat, there's no risk.

Depends on where you live. In Holland yes, but in Finland, no. It's forbidden. So what I buy here is pure meat, no protein added.

No, you don't NEED meat, but it makes a life a lot easier. I'm not going to eat vitamins in pills, I prefer food. And you said you were a vegetarian for ethical reasons? What about smoking? Or wearing leather?

the reason humans evolved was because we ate meat and didn't have to spend all day eating grass and fruit to get our energy supplements meaning we could hunt and do other stuff.

the way i see it is that the world has enough problems and thinking about animal cruelty dsoesn't come high on the list when ur looking at the grand scheme of things.
