Going to try and not drink for a month

I suppose ideally I won't think k thats 4 weeks up lets go and get smashed but I probably will unless I really chance as a result of not drinking.

I've told Ash and my bro and a couple of my mates.

They're kinda wary and don't think I'll hack it but they've actually been alot cooler about it than I reckoned they would be.

Come On!!! If you're drinking a bottle of Jack with your cornflakes, then you may have a problem...but having a few beers with your mates on a regular occassion is fine. If you're going out and getting smashed every night because your unhappy with your life, then thats not a good thing. But having a couple of Budweisers a night or a glass of wine wont do you any harm...in fact, most medical experts say it can reduce your stress levels. Jim, you're only 19, I wouldn't worry too much if I was you.... stay off the stella though, that stuff can turn ya into a maniac!!

I would beg to differ!! It won't kill you in the short term, but over time the effects become dangerous. Anyway, I don't think James is talking about a pint per night, I think he's talking about a bottle of vodka a few times a week. Now the effects of that aren't exactly good for your health

I'm wary of that recommendation due to the fact that scientists base that not only on controlled short term studies which encounter a number of restrictions, but also heavily on the drinking habits of French and Italian people who drink a lot of red wine. The number of deaths caused by heart problems in those countries is far below those in other Western countries, and this has been linked numerous times to their drinking habits of having a glass of red wine with their evening meal, or similar.

The problem with this link lies in the autopsy methods of those countries, where there is actually very strict criterion for deaths to be labelled as heart problems, whether it be general heart failure, high cholesterol, left ventricle hypertrophy etc. This is why the number of deaths caused by heart problems in those countries is drastically less than the UK or US for example, and is why the EU is trying to bring autopsy methods into line across the union. Therefore the recommendation of drinking a glass of red wine per day is to be taken quite cautiously IMO.

Aside from that, the hormonal and metabolic effects of alcohol are enough to keep me away from it!
