i'm still failing to see where you're going with this.

how is a british army stopping a patrol a few decades after the incident, of any importance or relevance to bloody sunday?

well jim, if they had just stopped cars for a few decades after bloody sunday then it wouldnt be a big deal, but they continued to harrass the nationalist community for the next 20 years, killing members of the community, working with paramiliteries to get rid of of fellow members,

they have a lot to answer for, starting with bloody sunday, i wasnt making a point with bloody sunday anyway, but making a point that a lot are happy to see them go, both unionist and nationalist.

but they're going anywhere they've just stopped one patrol!!!

and fww i'm pretty sure blowing up army trucks, sniping army patrols and gunning down off-duty soldiers was counter-productive to the armys relationship with the nationalist community.

alot of the problems that nationalists got from the army were created alot closer to home than 10 downing street

true historical objectivity is a myth especially when you're dealing with histories like the one between ireland and the UK.

saying that, i could have a look through my textbooks and see what i find. there's a few that are pretty much impartial and it's only the reader's subjectivity that skews the perception and understanding.

I'd be happy to take biased histories from both sides.

then hit up amazon for anything history relating to early modern through present ireland if you're talking about the "real" foundation of the aggro over there.

if you're talking about the troubles aka from when the paramilitaries decided to start shooting and blowing each other up then there's tonnes of stuff out there too.

not history by any stretch but marty mcgartland's books about him being a mole in the IRA are insteresting reads.

there's an interesting one i've read about undercover SAS hits on IRA men too but i can't remember the name of it for the life of me.

totally agree, but remember the majority of the nationalist community did not support the IRAs campiagn, actually only untill the ceasefire, and john Hume, did Shinn Fein rise in support,

and im sure killing people in bloody sunday, harassing the nationalist community and helping loyalist kill leading republican figures was conuter-productive to the republicans view of the army as a peace-keeping force rather than an amry of oocupation!

republican support grew higher after bloody sunday!

theres a whole lot of books you can read that will give u fantastic views on both sides of the conflict!

i found both the John Hume biography and Ian Pasileys biography (i believe it was cant remeber the actual title!) to be exellent on the politics side of things!
