Well I have to admit that Portugal looked the more threatening last night and had most of the possession but England thwarted them time after time. Ashley Cole and Sol Campbell had a stormer and in the end it took a moment of genius from Rui Costa to break the deadlock

Football is made up of 2 things - 50% attack and 50% defense and seeing as we were defending most of the time successfully, we were doing everything that was posible to keep our lead. It shouldn't be seen as a bad performance when you keep the likes of Figo, Nuno Gomes and Ronaldo from creating goals for 60 minutes (between Rooney's exit and Costa's stunner!) and yes, Portugal looked the more likely to score - but they DIDN'T, and we punished them for it in the last few minutes when Sol scored his header! The linesman gave it and the only one who didn't think it was a goal was the f**king shite ref who had the worst performance of anyone - even Beckham!

Beckham should have shown more leadership and I just knew he was gonna miss his spot-kick - you could see it in his eyes! - but to be honest the penalty spot looked like it was made of sand and for him to have to take the kick first, and miss, gave Portugal the unfair advantage of knowing the ground conditions beforehand.

At the end of the day - yup, that's football but I defy anyone to say that the poor decision by the ref in the last couple of minutes didn't rob England of glory, and we showed what we were really made of in extra time to come back from looming defeat to take it to penalties which we were then, again, robbed of from shocking pitch conditions yet again! Sour grapes? Yes, to some extent, but I hold none of my frustration and anger with Portugal as they played very well and the luck went with them. The referee should never be allowed to oversee competitive internationals again and I hope Portugal go all the way. Good luck to you!

That's what you get for having a pretty boy as your captain just because he's a pretty boy!

And, of course, when your team loses the ref is always to blame. Who else could it be? :P

I don't know about football, but that's the way it goes. A team loses a match, the fans blame the ref.

A rather generalised opinion wouldn't you say? If you actually watch the majority of games that show teams blaming the referee, about 80-90% of the time, they have a case! If the roles had been reversed and Portugal had been disallowed that last minute goal, I would openly admit that we were fortunate and that Portugal would have been robbed of victory. Not every fan follows their team thinking that they will simply win every game because it's THEIR team and I am one of the more objective fans. However, I do think that we were robbed by the ref's decision and poor performance and as you said, that's football unfortunately! Such major bad decisions should NOT be allowed in a massive sport though, especially football with all it's money! Rugby and Cricket allow video-playback for decisions so why shouldn't football? The time for stamping out bad calls from officials is way overdue and something needs to be done about it to protect teams that are hard-done-by from such decisions IMO!
