football is a gentleman's sport for thugs and rugby is a thug's sport for gentlemen. there are actually far less injuries in rugby than football.

Sorry Mike, I agree with Ponrauil (and I'm English!). He said it exactly as it is and its not sour grapes at all. Sounds like he's hit the nail right on the head. And Dawn, don't bash something that you obviously no nothing about. I'm not having a go at you so please don't take offense but seriously it doesn't sound like your on the right track with the whole image of rugby thing. Sorry.

I think the reference to '66 World Cup was justified as well. The similarities (barring the whole different sport thing) were quite uncanny. And also its the only time we've won the football world cup so let us enjoy it because its something that doesn't look like happening again for quite a while unfortunately.

unless the footy lads get their asses in gear for nex summer.

i'm sticking with my originl point of view. we played the best rugby we could in the situations we were left in. if we played boring rugby, so did the other nations. i'd advise ponrauil etc to watch the six nations in feb (if they can get it over there). the rugby then tends to be of a higher standard from a spectator's point of view.

I will try to catch it for sure. There is something in the 6 Nations that's not in the World Cup (yet). Probably the weight of history and tradition.
Anyway, during the world cup, some teams did display some exciting play.
Even if they didn't win a game, look at the Japanese, they had very fast players firing up the game against France. Or France against Ireland. All blacks against France for 3rd place.
(I only saw the games with France and the final)

Ponrauil
